The Cure to Unhappiness

What is unhappiness... and how is it we maroon ourselves on such a desolate and unsavory island so often? As a soul, we revel in the bliss of happiness and of joy and ethereal love - why not stay there? Why be unhappy? What's so appealing about it?

I've seen this course of human nature a thousand times - irrepressible joy is soon overtaken by a shock of reality or of heartbreak and followed by deep and overwhelming sadness, for however brief that time is. We weigh too much of our own decisions and sanity into the wants and desires of other people, and as a result - we've left little for ourselves.

For some reason there's comfort in doing what others would have us do - it's a people pleaser kind of attitude that can often wind us down an anxious, desperate, and spiritually war-torn road... I don't know what it is but we secretly hope within that our spiritualities and our intimate relationships will somehow make us feel better. But like... for really? Is that what they do? When we liberate both our spiritualities and our relationships from the burden we have put on them to produce certain feelings then what? If we no longer organize our lives around feeling certain feelings and avoiding others, then where are we? If we set aside once and for all our habitual desire to be in some “state” other than the one we’re in, what will happen? It requires tremendous courage – and an unbearable willingness to plunge into the groundless and unresolvable nature of love - to no longer take refuge in any idea or concept to tell us who we are and what this life is. That is for us to decide - and when we do, it's a blast of cool wind that burns your face to wake you up.

I don't know if you've ever seen something SO beautiful that you've become breathless - for some, it's seeing your significant other walk down the isle or put on that ring. For some it's a sunset or sunrise in their holy places. For others it could be that piece of art or music that seems to speak a little closer to your soul than the rest - but it is in all sense's LITERALLY breathtaking. From what I can understand and have come to learn myself - this is the freedom of the soul. This is the birth of self worth, soul searching, selfless love, messy passion, free spirits and goodly wandering minds - and in that birth, the life thereafter is ONLY happiness for as long as you wish it to be a part of you.

So the more I thought about it, it wasn't a matter of human nature - it wasn't a pattern or a course of human interaction... it was a choice.

The cure for unhappiness is knowledge.

It's knowing who you are, and why you started. It's doing for you what is best regardless of what mediocre mind protests your course.

Unhappiness is not knowing what you want and working your whole life to get it. So if that's true, happiness starts inside, somewhere in your heart and becomes the reason why you are who you are, and why you do what you do.

The cure for unhappiness is selflessness.

Unhappiness exists only in people who wish it upon themselves, and for those who have centered themselves, for those who have lightened their load by doing what is best for their souls, too see a soul who has crushed themselves in the burden of unhappiness is almost as great a heartbreak as to have it themselves. So it becomes their duty to love selflessly and to fight unhappiness with examples of pure love.

The cure for unhappiness is nature.

Amidst the vessels that are uniformly contingent with the will of God, you will find yourself safe, refreshed and renewed in your perspective of people, souls and lives - and quickly the trivia of the world is inconsequential because you have understood what obedience, humility and divinity tastes like.

The cure for unhappiness is happiness.

Do not surround yourself with those who are not of the caliber which you wish your soul to progress to. You are only as good as the thoughts you surround yourself with and the people you gift your time to - with time being the only finite resource that humans have, do not squander it in the presence of mediocre souls who do not passionately accelerate your progress towards knowledge and enlightenment... you are too valuable to treat yourself otherwise.

Do not treat yourself to the lie that unhappiness is a standard status quo - be of the throngs of souls who reject that premise and want only good things that better themselves and those around them, and though terrifying, do not be afraid to let go of those who hinder your progress towards that which you hold most dear - it is of the utmost importance that you understand this concept.

You are built for so much more than unhappiness - and in the end - the cure to unhappiness is no more than you.
