The Right for Wrong

The fundamentals of all things in life can be broken down to truths and lies. If it is not truth, than in some form or another - it's a lie. If the truth is withheld, if we do not receive the WHOLE truth - it is a lie. By definition "True" or "Truth" is "... to be accurate or exact." Anything that is not accurate or exact is not truth, and therefore the antitheses, a lie.

The more I thought about this the more, at least in my mind, I came to the conclusion that Truth and Non-Truth is the struggle of all humanity. Truth yields happiness, Non-truth does not. It's as simple as that - and regardless of religion, race, marital status, employment, gender, politics or any other discriminatory status - no one can dispute that that's what they're searching for - Happiness. We find the adage, "Honesty is the best policy" to ring particularly true here.

For me, the struggle for happiness lies in the most fundamental two faced battle we has a human race can face. The first side of the coin is selfishness. A battle everybody seems to be aware of and few of us are willing to fight; but it is a battle none the less. Selfishness is the harvesting ground for greed, power, gluttony, vanity, riches, spoils and temporal things that hold little stock in Happiness. Selfishness is not always a terrible thing necessarily, but it is a vile habit.

The second is selflessness, a less well-known battle, but the one that is fought more frequently than selfishness itself. This battle, of selflessness, is not a battle of charity, it is not a bottle of giving, it is a battle of being selfless for the RIGHT reasons. All of us, at one time or another in the course of our lives, will be selfish for the right reasons or more deceivingly, be selfless for the wrong reasons. This, is worse than selfishness itself! Selfishness is a singular battle, involving only yourself. The kind of selflessness that we speak of, is a battle that you will drag unwilling victims in to, who never asked to fight that battle in the first place. Selfishness, and selflessness for the wrong reasons, are the two vile battles that we face everyday. The day that we can call ourselves our best selves, is the day, that we have unknowingly won both those battles for all the right reasons.

In the end, no one is concerned with the surrender, and we are less concerned with the victory, then we are with the fight. The internal struggle, that all of us face everyday is something all of us can relate to; it is a battle that not one of us does not fight! We must consider the hearts and souls of others in all aspects of life. A reputation is not built overnight, and this war will not be won in a day. It continues, the battle rages on, and though we may be victorious some days, the war is not over. It is not over until you help others come to that knowledge. True selflessness, exists only in the happiness of others. It takes a powerful man to admit that he's selfish, it takes an even greater, more Christ-like, more powerful, more beautiful, loving, charitable, wonderful, perfect man, to change.

Change is the most terrifying, but paradoxically, the only constant we have.
